  5. Hi Cabin! Great giveaway, as oozsh. =0) Thanks for the opportunity!

I use cfl lights, recycle, try not to throw anything away if I can fix it, shop at the thrift store alot for everyday clothes, buy gently-used household items on Craigslist, bring my totes to the grocery store, etc etc etc. Here is a fun checklist I found on being green!: http://www.bubhub.com.au/todo-eco-friendly-family-checklist.php

  6. it's so cute, reminds me of beatrix potter :)

we decided to get rid of our car while we lived in the city for 3 years so we were fully reliant on bikes and public transit...which also had us more fit, lol. now that we have to have one again we make an even bigger effort to recycle and take short showers.

  7. I have a compost and I try to buy all of my fruits and veggies from the local organic farmers market.

    Such a cute notebook!

  8. We are expanding our organic garden this year, and have stopped using paper towels...

  9. almost everything in my house was purchased used from thrift stores, yard sales, junk stores! My couches, tables, chairs, coffee table, end tables, hutches, mirrors, pictures, frames, etc.! I think that is the greenest way to be!

  11. What a great giveaway! LOVE this notepad- too cute!!

Lots of going green! I pretty much have eliminated paper from my life (work and home). We grow a lot of our own veggies. We recycle and use energy-efficiant light bulbs. And lots of public transit use :)

We are currently working on our yard and my husband is hoping to plant a vegetable garden for us. :0)

  13. i always love your giveaways val, because they always encourage sharing. the best way i've gone green is to only use household cleaners that i make from scratch.

  15. You just have the best giveaways! Luv it! Ok..we do a lot to reduce our footprint..here's one example. Living out in the boonies..there is NO curbside recycling pick up. We organize all of our cardboard, newspaper, glass and plastics and run it into town about 2x a month to recycle. For a family of four, we generally have less than 1 garbage can a week. We're pretty proud of ourselves :) teehee

    ReplyDelete
  16. We are working on getting green. We recently got curbside recycling in our town, so that helps. I save all my chipboard and use it for packaging, and we are starting a neighborhood garden next week! Thanks for sharing :)

  17. How am I green?
I ride my bike instead of drive.
I grow my own herbs on my little balcony.
I visit markets to find foods and flowers locally farmed.
I conserve water by making sure I turn off the faucet while I brush my teeth and wash dishes.
I recycle, and I restore old furniture and jewelry- making them new again!

    Happy (early) Earth Day!
    p.s. cute pad. so cute.

  18. What a cute notebook!
We recycle a lot. And we've bought those energy saving lightbulbs.

  19. Cute notebook, would make a lovely little book for handwritten poems and those "special" thoughts that cross one's mind on a rare blue moon.
I've been recycling since the late 60's...back then we had to tie our stacks of newspapers together with cotton twine, put all the glass bottles into one cardboard box, aluminum cans into another cardboard box, and tin cans into a third box. Then we had to drive down town and wait in a long line as people unloaded their stuff. This was done once a month...but then we also had a milkman who delivered glass bottles of milk right to our front door.

  20. That's so cute! I also enjoyed reading all the comments for good green tips. We cut out all non-organic locally raised meat from our diets as well as non-organic fruits and veggies. We try to grow as much as our own food as we can but we aren't much of gardeners, it's a start though!

  21. Chipmunks always remind me of summer vacations at Nana & Pop's cottage. :)
I go green by bringing my own shopping bag everywhere and in the warmer months I bike to work a few times a week.

  22. OH NO I ADORE THAT NOTEBOOK!!! I love chipmunks. :o)

Well, my campus is home to the School of Environment, so it's easy to go green at school! We have compost bins everywhere, and compostable dishes in the cafeteria, and we get a discount if we bring our own mug/dishes. At home, we recycle everything (including batteries, electronics, and ink cartridges), use reusable bags, and I try to buy organic foods and especially free-range grain fed meat. And local stuff too!

  23. That's so cute! I drive hybrid car, use non-toxic cleaners, recycle, use reusable bags, eat organics, hand down my clothes to my friends (lol)...etc I try to be green as much as I can!

  24. Ooh, how can I not enter to win that beautiful notebook! We don't have chipmunks here in Australia and I always wanted a pet one as a kid.

    I am green by:

Taking re-usable shopping bags to do grocery shopping.

I'm a recycling nazi. If I notice anything recyclable in the rubbish for landfill bin I'll fish it out and put it in the recycling bin.

I'm always careful when I unwrap presents that I don't tear the paper so I can use it later. I've got a box of wrapping paper that's already been used.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Super cute notebook! I just love chipmunks!
I recycle everything I can. I never throw a single fabric scrap away. I save every tiny piece! I then sew up a dog beds with the bigger scraps and stuff with the smaller and donate to the local shelter.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You have a great blog! I'm following you now. :) I love being a green mama. I think breast feeding my babies is the ultimate way to be green, but we also use cloth diapers as a way to save on the waste that goes into our landfills.

  27. I contribute in being green with carrying my own tote bag from home instead of using a plastic bag from supermarkets/store. The bonus: I look stylish as well. I collected scrap papers, brochures with a blank surface on one side, used envelopes, etc staple them together and make notebooks, and I also buy second hand furniture, a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The notebook is adorable!
Among other things, I use public transport instead of a car and I sort the trash, separating paper, plastic and glass from the rest...

  29. what a cute notebook! I wish i could have a huge vegie garden like my mum but seeing as we're living in rental properties i do my best by public transporting it everywhere and separating plastics from paper etc. It's also super important down here in australia to conserve water so bring on those 4 minute showers!

  36. I ♥ this notebook... totally hope I win.

We are so eco-friendly this could be a long comment so I'll try to keep it short.

We recycle, reuse things as much as possible, avoid buying anything that comes packaged in plastic, grow our own herbs and peppers, compost, walk everywhere, buy raw organic food products, reusable bags, mesh bags for produce, buy granola nuts and such in bulk with reusable bags, do everything online to avoid using paper, i'm a freakish water conservationist, have CFL's, have a reel lawn mower, avoid shopping at all unless we NEED something, try to make sure as little as humanly possible goes from us to the landfill...

I could just go on and on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i have been green since the 70s--no dishwasher, garden, composting, walk as many places as possible, always have driven a car with high mpg (never under 40!), recycle everything, buy used, all that stuff...and right now i am recycling all my grandmother's and mother's stuff...some for art, some to make more room in my life...

There are a lot of ways I am green including recycling, composting, riding my bike with baby chariot towed behind even to the grocery store -even when it is not convienient and using cloth diapers and no disposable wipes(way easier than you would think. But most important I try to lead by example not by preaching it seems to get way more converts!

  82. Some things I have done to be more eco-friendly is basically be more conscious of how much electricity and water I'm using. I only run the dishwasher when it's full, I wash my clothes in cold water on the lowest water level I can, and I simply make sure I turn off lights that don't need to be on. Pretty simple, but I know every little bit helps. And I have seen a huge difference in the electric bill!

  101. That is such a sweet little notebook!
As far as going green, -
well, we are working on it primarily by NOT throwing stuff we can reuse/repaint/reupholster/ redesign/ recycle/upcycle/ etc. And, this being NYC, supporting the local farmers by buying at the farmers' market what we can.
Tips?- I'd say, don't be afraid to learn something new!- like reupholstering old chairs instead of buying new ones seemed like a daunting task at first. But with a little sleuth work on the Internet, we did a really impressive job! Same goes, as I have learnt, for a lot of things- a new book bag for my daughter made out of jeans she outgrew, wee dresses made out of big guy's dress shirts, etc.
