toile de jouy

I have always loved toile de jouy patterns, but am still trying to figure out a way to incorporate a bit of it  in our house ,while still retain a modern look. Perhaps an accent pillow or something would be nice - most of the examples I see are of entire toile rooms - encompassing curtains, bed spreads and lampshades... perhaps a bit overdose inducing in that case.

  1. Framing it is a great idea!

I have a chair with a toile pillow, couldn't resist a touch of it myself.

  2. you can never go wrong with a pillow. and the frame idea is awesome!

if i could wallpaper in here(we rent) i'd love an accent wall with wallpaper... say behind the headboard in the bedroom. yellow toile patter and maybe a simple, modern and huge black-framed mirror on it. i think if everything else was very mod you could get away with a big toile-y kapow. ;-)

oh and a black chandelier! and all white bedding like a chic hotel!

  3. I also love this, in blue also. I've been wanting to find this kind of material to make cute tank top out of.. Even a dress for my daughter. A bed spread would be sooo inviting.

  5. I know the feeling on that. But I'm always drawn to it too. I like the frame idea too. Wrapped around wood or canvas blocks would give a more modern look to it too.

  6. I reupholstered the cushion part of a little wooden footstool in a toile fabric once. It was a nice touch in the room without being overwhelming. Something small like that would work.

  8. I LOVE the frame idea. Pillow would look cool too, how about as a trim along the bottom of solid colored drape?

  12. Ooo! A toile pillow would be lovely! Or, you could cover some books in it and disperse them throughout a bookshelf. :)

  13. What about covering boxes/storage things? Or upholstering a really modern-looking chair? I thinkt hat would be a great juxtaposition. Ooh, ooh, or how about the inside of cabinets/closets/etc?
