orange you glad to see me?

Just outside one of the local skytrain stations here in Vancouver (basically our city subway system) sits a trio of giant day-glo orange bears. Pretty hard to miss them... they are pretty fluorescent. They somewhat remind me of fake cheese and macaroni, but in a good way of course. They are one of the many new public sculptures that have popped up around the city for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Check them out at the 49th Avenue Langara station, if you get a chance... they will make you smile and perhaps say "cheese" too.

  7. Cute! Winnipeg did that years back, a bunch of different artists painted up polar bears that popped up all over the city one night. It was a neat surprise to wake up to.

  9. heheheh...they really to look like mac and cheese coloured. Too fun! I was telling someone here about Vancouver's skytrain a few days ago and they giggled at me and asked me if that is what Canadians called airplanes.
    Silly Americans ;)

  11. That's so funny! It sounds so strange, but I can't wait to ride the skytrain when I get home this summer - we only got to try out the new line a couple of times and we didn't stop at any of the in-between stops. Two months and I'll be there! I hope the day-glo bears are still around.

  15. they totally look like the kraft mac n cheese color. How astute of you. Maybe kraft could do bears-they do dinos and pinwheels. Anyhoo I like it when a city does art "just because"

  28. Art truly does enrich a city, and it provides us with food for thought...perhaps that explains why the artist chose the famous "Kraft Mac & Chedder Cheese" orange.
