les amis du fromage

I stopped by one of my favorite shops today Les Amis du Fromage to put together a cheese platter for a potluck tonight. I could spend hours in there perusing the shelves since there is so much selection, however the thought of spending way over my budget and coming home with a giant cheese wheel deter me from lingering there too long. And what to serve with the cheeses?... well one of the best crackers ever - Raincoast Crisps! A little weird, I know, to be excited about crackers... but these are really really good!

poppytalk

How very exciting! My collage and a couple of my notebooks have been featured on Poppytalk today as part of the New Affordable Art features. It is one of my most favorite blogs and is from Vancouver too! I can't help but to gush about the great things that come out of this city. Check out the blog for great postings on art, design, and things handmade!

pretty little leaves

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US! Up here in Canada, we've already celebrated ours in mid-October, so I have already had my turkey fix. Thought I would share a pretty picture my hubby Roger took recently since its so pretty and fall-ish. A block away from our house is a street-lined with rows and rows of bright red maple trees... we can walk over and enjoy them... and not have to worry about raking leaves. Yay!

collage: girl with cake

I envy those who can bake such lovely things. While I like to cook a lot, my muffin tins and cake pan are still pretty much brand new. The thought of myself ingesting a dozen cookies fresh from the oven in one sitting is probably the main reason I refrain from baking... so dangerous! In this collage I think she is thinking the same thing.. "not only do I want cake, but I want some cookies too!"

new notebooks

Yay! The notebooks that I printed with my print gocco are finally up in the shop! This time around I have made two new styles... one with a happy blue whale and the other with a pair of singing birds. Both are made out of 100% post consumer recycled paper, so they are good for the environment as well. Check them out in the shop today!

collage: she can sing better than he can

A collage to share with you today. I used to be in a choir when I was in high school - there I quickly learned that I have a bit of a phobia singing into microphones. Alas, it was never meant to be, and karaoke still freaks me out today. A bit of a switch, I decided to give the girl the bird-like voice and the boy the nervous squeak... hence the title "she can sing better than he can".

we've fallen for etsy sale

Just wanted to thank everyone who came to the We've Fallen For Etsy Sale on Sunday! It was a beautiful sunny day and a great turn out. It was also great to see all the faces (familiar and new) behind the different Vancouver-based Etsy stores. One craft fair done and two more coming up before the winter holidays!

mailing recipes

I always like getting cards and letters in the mail - a nice treat among the bills and junk mail. I also like trading recipes with friends as well. So to combine two nice things into one, I have made recipe card stationary sets. Each set comes with four extra sturdy cards made out of recycled vintage cookbook images as well as four kraft envelopes. A perfect way to mail and share a recipe with a friend or put up on the fridge! I will be posting several sets up in the shop over the next few days!

print gocco

My living room has been taken over by hundreds of notebooks. I am in the process of printing some new notebooks with my print gocco and am running out of space to let things dry – I think I will have to look into getting a drying rack of some sort. I am getting really good at tiptoeing and maneuvering without having a book stuck to the bottom of my socks though. I will post the new designs soon once they are dry!

oh joy!

I am excited today since my bird bookplates have been featured on ohjoy! today. If you are not familiar with the blog, it's a must read that features lovely design and stylish things. Joy also has a beautiful stationary collection of her own called nantaka joy. Check it out for some great holiday gift ideas.

perfect pattern

I recently bought a shirt from one of my favorite local clothing labels, lifetime collective - it has the most pretty autumn pattern. It makes me want to go for a hike in the woods and collect pine cones.

collage: girl& cookie jar

I am continuing the sweet dessert theme today! Here is a another collage.... everybody likes to sneak a cookie once in awhile... although in this case, I think she has a big piece of cake in mind. All this talk about sweets and treats is making me hungry.

sweet revenge

On the weekend Roger took me to Sweet Revenge - one of my favorite dessert spots. If you haven't already gone, or are visiting Vancouver, it is a must visit. All their decadent pastries and cakes are organic and homemade and served in a cozy Edwardian parlor setting – it just makes you want to put on a period costume... well, almost. I usually am a dessert sharer (i.e. lets get one dessert and split it), but in this case, I had to make an exception and down an entire portion of chocolate pudding cake to myself. Thank goodness corsets are a thing of the past.

le ballon rouge

Le Ballon rouge (The Red Balloon) is one of my favorite films. It is a charming story of a boy who is followed and befriended by a little red balloon. I remember watching the film in elementary school, and was very excited to find the book in a thrift store a few years ago. My husband tracked down the DVD for me recently, which was the perfect gift!

new collage: girl & puppy

I am posting another new collage today. I try and make a new collage every few days. I love mixing materials such as paper and wood, as well as using images from vintage children's books.

new bookplate birds

New bookplate designs featuring four different color and bird styles are up in the shop. These were all printed with my print gocco. Hard to see in the photo, but I used pastel and pearly inks... so there is a bit of fancy sheen to the birds.

etsy map

For the past year and a half, I have been tracking all the different places I have shipped my etsy sales - basically an excuse for sticking colorful pins into a map (which I have always wanted to do since I was a kid). My secret goal is to get at least one pin in each province and state in North America.

new collage: kids & bear

New collage up in the shop today. This one is called kids & bear. I imagine that the bear and little girl are having a dialogue - perhaps negotiating whether to set the bear free.

my first post

Craft fair season is approaching, so I am busy stepping up production for the upcoming holiday season. I have been punching out images from various damaged vintage books for the past two evenings. They looked so cheery and colorful, I had to take a pic of the pile. These will eventually be used for greeting cards - will post once they are done!
