collage bits

I am making some slow progress (which is better than no progress, right?) on my collages. Have clipped out lots of cool images and will start working on layouts and illustration soon. Also, I figured out a way of storing and putting away these itty bits of paper a lot less tedious ... (which might be a useful tip for some of you). After seeing a puzzle mat in a Lee Valley catalogue, I decided to make my own out of thick felt and a mailing tube. Now, all I have to do is roll it up, when I'm not working on them. Hooray!... craft mess contained!

Takes a little time to get back into the swing of things after having a new baby enter into one's life. But you are coping with time management just fine. :)

I've seen those puzzle mats and wondered if they really kept all the tiny pieces together neatly or not and I like your idea about using felt and a mailing tube.

Talking about puzzles your photo of all those small collage pieces that you've so carefully clipped out looks sort of like a puzzle itself. Can't wait to see how your creative imagination composes them.

Bead-ers use those felt mats too...and they work wonders and are small enough to cart around...like road trips...I love mine.

Oh genius on the mat - I hate havng all that stuff around when your not working on it....nevermind the kids covering their Star Wars figures with glitter.

Lovely collage pieces....so many tiny ones...are your eyes going crossed!
What a clever idea on the rollup. You will have to let us know how your version works on your small little collage pieces.
Have a great weekend.

hi - I'm here via Almost Precious
I love the images you picked for the collage. My grandmother (born in Croatia in 1904 or so) had a set of cutouts that showed the kids in a classroom from the back. She had saved that over the years and I played with them in the '60s as a kid. Unfortunately, I think they were lost to us, but your images brought back terrific memories.

Valerie, how clever of you. :)

What a lot of cutting out, does your hand hurt?

You will have a little helper soon enough to sort the pieces for you (He! He!)

Have a lovely weekend, T. :)

You're right...slow progress is better than no progress at all. And - Excellent way to contain the craft mess! Yay! =) Thanks for sharing.

perfect solution! i get very nervous when i've laid out a collage and get pulled away before it's stuck down ~ even having pieces around {un-arranged} gives me ideas and i can't bear to put them away!
nice that you've got a little time to work :)
