tayberries are here!

Perhaps you were like me and asking what the heck is a tayberry? We went raspberry picking on the weekend, and whilst picking noticed a sign for Tayberrries... turns out that they aren't mutant long raspberries (as I was calling them), but a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry... and they are soooo good! Noticing that no one else in the field seemed very interested, we went to town... realizing pretty quickly why not a lot of people like to pick them... argh.. can the bushes be any thornier? At times I had to make sure my red stained fingers were from the fruit and not from the constant slivers I was getting. Anyhoo, after an hour of stealthy ninja-like picking maneuvers we managed to get a big bucket of them... and it was sooo worth it!

i love all the crazy berry hybrids you can find in the northwest. Oregon is the King when it comes to berry varieties. Can't wait to make pies and jams out of them all!

I've never heard of tayberries, but I so want to try them now. Sounds like the thorns make them even better in the end!

I've never heard of a tayberry. They are thornier than raspberries? We always had a big raspberry patch in our garden. Hated picking them, not my favorite berry either.

Woah! Those look WONDERFUL!! I wonder if any farms around here grow them.

I kind like your name for them, though. "Mutant long raspberries."

One time on Gilmore Girls (good show) Jackson (the produce guy) created "rasquats." A cross between a kumquat and a raspberry. I have wanted to find someone who did that ever since I saw that episode. I LOVE hybrid fruit!

Oh I wish I could taste these. Berries are the best part of the summer; or one of the best parts.

I've never met a berry I didn't like, except one guy named Barry! Someone would have to drag me out of that patch, because I would have sat there and ate me way out!

as a berry fanatic... i am so disappointed with myself for not knowing these existed!

mmm! I have a big bush of blackberries right outside my office window. I have to get very stealthy to get them, lol.

We might have some in our "yard" (overgrown woods by our driveway). We have these crazy bushes with traffic cone orange, gigantic thorns and raspberry looking berries.

I'm kind of afraid to pick them though because bright orange rarely appears in nature...

so funny, because before i read the first words in the post, i thought what the heck is a tayberry. good info to know. although i think i might be scared to eat a tayberry, it does look mutantish. but since you say its delicious, i might sneak a bite if i ever find one.

I've never heard of tayberries, but they sure look delicious! Can it survive in Malaysia --- where the temperature is about 27 degree celsius? If yes, I'd like to plant them in my garden. Mmmm...
