my oldest friend

Meet my oldest friend. It was bought at the hospital gift shop on the day I was born by my dad. I always called him the "orange dog" and never did get around to naming him... I guess "orange dog" just became its name. He used to have eyebrows too, but those have long since disappeared, hence the constant look of surprise. I have a feeling I was responsible for his eyebrow removal at some point... can't quite remember. I will have to give him a good wash and re-patch his nose (it is slightly askew and in danger of falling off) before he can meet little Bun in the coming months. But can't wait unitil they both become friends as well.

Awwwww! When my brother was born, someone gave him a very soft stuffed Snoopy. He carried it around for years. His first child was born this past Friday. On Saturday, my mom and I found a very similar Snoopy at Hallmark. My brother started crying the minute he opened the gift bag! ;)

I think that is about the sweetest thing ever. I'm sure orange dog and bun will love each other very much.

Orange Dog is just adorable :)

It is wonderful to be able to pass along mementoes to your children, not long now :) T.

Oh man, this totally activated my new mom hormones. I'm all misty eyed now.

I have my own baby blanket in my little girls crib now. It makes me smile everyday.

That orange pup will be getting a wonderful new friend.
Congratulations to you!

Awww, this is so sweet! My son was given a blanket that was mine when I was a baby. It's his prized possession! He sleeps with it every night and gave it a name "Monkey". Perhaps The Orange Dog was waiting for your little one to be officially named :) Congrats too!

That's so cute! I don't have anything from when I was little, my parents didn't save stuff with all of us 5 crazy girls... so I made a really nice handmade doll that flips and has another face to her under her dress, shes's very folksy. I plan to give her to my girl someday, after I marry and once I have one. :) I like to plan ahead.

What a wonderful gift to pass along - even if it is sans eyebrows (and it should stay that way!!)

That's amazing you still have him after all this time. Hope Bun likes him too! Maybe it will become a family heirloom, passed down for generations, eventually on Antiques Roadshow in 2090?

I still have a red dog that my godmother bought me when I was a baby. It's amazing how something so small can invoke such wonderful childhood memories. I couldn't think of a better gift for your newborn than sharing something that you have held and loved over the years.

It's so great that you can keep something and then pass it along like this. =) Thanks for sharing.

Aww that's so cute!

I have a yellow teddy bear that I called Jelly. Mine was given to me by my little brother because out of all the stuffed toys I was given as a baby, none were a teddy bear, so my brother gave me one of his.

Poor Jelly isn't looking quite as yellow as she once was, but I hope she's still around when I have a bub of my own.

I was terrible about naming childhood toys as well. I had a stuffed bear called Mr. Bear, when his bow fell off he became Mrs. Bear because someone bought me another teddy bear with a bow.

There was also the notorious "Poodle." Yes, it was a stuffed poodle toy.

The penultimate childhood toy was "chick the duck." It was a stuffed toy duckling, but I insisted it was a chick...

Ah childhood : )

I'm sure Orange Dog will become a treasured favorite of your little one. It is amazing that he is in such fine condition considering that soft, stuffed toys usually end up getting chewed on by teething toddlers. Yeah, teething takes a toll on toys...wow sounds like a newspaper headline doesn't it? :D

I have a Snoopy toy that looks so similar. He is living in a box in my parents' garage. When I get back in the same country as Snoopy, you've inspired me to retrieve him and give him a little more respect for being such a loyal friend :)

Growing up I had a pink dog that was my Mom's when she was a little girl. I'm not sure where he ended up but the Peanut ow has the Raggedy Ann doll I blamed my one ad only wet bed on at the age of 2 and both of my Teddy Bears from my childhood, one is noseless and eyeless. She has her own favourites but it's nice to see them in her room

So cute!
I've got a Paddington Bear from childhood that is no longer furry and his felt coat is long gone (actually I remember making him another one at some point after the first one fell apart. Now he just wears a bear sweater).

Ha! There's nothing better then the image of Bob Saget singing the baby b song. I don't think that song as left my head for long since first hearing it.

*tear* that is so wonderful for you to hand him down to your little one. I am now so pining for my little Bimbo bear who my mom swears is still safely tucked away in storage!

How great that you still have orange dog. He's so cute and your little bun is gonna love him :)

I had the same dog, only he wasn't orange! He was light brown with the same dark ears.

That dog is adorable. I think it is wonderful that you kept him all these years and will pass him along to your child.

My mom gave me her Raggedy Ann doll when I was about 6 or 7, and that doll meant the world to me - I took it along whenever I was away from home to stop feeling homesick. A couple of weeks ago I gave my 18 month old the Cabbage Patch doll I was given the day my little sister was born. I hope that doll can do the same for her as Raggedy Ann did for me.

Good luck with your up-coming adventure - it's a lot of fun :)
