a whale of a time

Recently, we ventured to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at the University of British Columbia to check out the blue whale exhibit - one of only 20 exhibits in the world. At 26 metres (over 85 ft) long, the adult female blue whale was very grand and impressive indeed... she's massive! And since the skeleton is suspended, viewers can walk underneath it as well.... very cool. As you can see, it was a bit tricky for us to capture her hefty-ness in just one photo.

in the tree tops

I always wanted a treehouse when I was growing up... perhaps it was after seeing those little Ewoks in the Return of the Jedii movie... only problem was that there were no large trees on my parents property. Fast forward years later, and I got to live out my treehouse dream.... well, sort of. Last week, Roger and I visited the UBC Botanical Garden to venture on the Greenheart Canopy Walkway, which is basically an aerial trail system that hangs up high in the forest tree tops. (You can see me walking on it in the top photo... a bit camouflaged though, since I wore a green jacket that day... oops). It was very cool to see the forest from a higher vantage point, smell the fresh air, and listen to the various birds all around us. The whole trail is very cool, so check it out if you happen to be in Vancouver and ever had treehouse dreams or want to feel like an Ewok.

high tech ewok village

The other day we had a chance to visit the Greenheart Canopy Walkway at the UBC Botanical Garden, a 308 metre walkway of a series of suspended bridges high in the forest treetops. It was soooooo cool! As my husband Roger likes to describe it, it was like a futuristic high-tech Ewok village. You can see me in the top photo walking to the other side. It doesn't look scary, but about half way across, I began nervously laughing to myself as the bridge swayed and wobbled. Yub yub!
