summer buzz

A lovely summery photo today (taken by my hubby Roger) to kick off the weekend. I think fuzzy bumble bees are so cute, but I try to keep a slight distance... I once stepped on one as a kid, while walking through grass (what are the odds), and my foot swelled up to three times its size. I basically had an elephant-man foot for a week... it was awful. But since then, I have overcome my fear of bees, especially for those darn cute fuzzy ones.

They are pretty cute, aren't they? In a summer class I'm taking, I have to do a presentation about a children's book to show how it could be used to start off a language arts lesson. I chose "The Very Greedy Bee", because it is just SUCH a fun book. The illustrations are beautiful too, which is important in my opinion.

The boys tried to take a picture of a bee the other day, but they didn't want to get too close - so you can't really see it.

lovely photo. We have sweat bees in our garden, they are a lovely pearlescent greeny blue, hive underground and only sting if they are handled.

My daughter right now is really freaked our by bees. every time one buzzes near her we have to calm her down and re-explain that they aren't coming after her

Yeah, I've become much more of a fan of bees in my old age, ha. I freaked out if a bee was anywhere near me when I was a child...now I'm not afraid to even stick a camera lens right up on 'em while they're gathering nectar...generally, they're so distracted by the flowers that they don't even notice me clicking away!

I saw a cute fuzzy bumble bee stuck upside down on the sidewalk struggling to turn over and I was too chicken to help him! I felt horrible as I walked away.

I'm sure he is fine! I hope...

Ooh that would not be fun. When we first moved here almost 3 years ago a fire ant bit me and I had the same reaction. Bees are far more aesthetically pleasing than ants though. What a gorgeous photo of the cute bumblebee. xo

Nice photo!

I stepped on a bee in the grass as a kid too. I remember I was walking with my dad through a field and my foot starting hurting really badly and I was screaming and crying and my dad did not know what in the world was wrong with me lol

yeah! bumblebees!

it makes me so very sad that they're apparently starting to disappear.
