bad kitty

So I just happened to stumble upon this big 'ol cougar attacking a game bird over the weekend... ok, ok... the cougar is stuffed and is permanently and eternally fixed in this pose and there was no danger factor present, but nevertheless, it made for a pretty cool photo. I find taxidermy displays really fascinating, and I always wonder how they decide what final poses these animal will have. I guess they decided this one needed to be in attack mode... meow! (ps. this big kitty is located in Vancouver's Science World, if you are wanting to check it out).

I've wondered that, too, how they decide on the pose.

Great shot. :)

Awesome!

I went into a display of taxidermied bears years ago and I actually felt frightened. It was totally humbling to stand among this room filled with 12 or more bears of different varieties all on their hind legs. Talk about feeling small!

I was kind of scared that this actually made it into your home... So happy it's just a museum display!

Have a great week!

When I was little I always loved being able to touch the fur :p It's a bit of a strange art though isn't it?

I think when I come back home this summer, I will be in attack mode to you for making me homesick all the time ;)
just kidding...I adore your Vancouver posts...they make me feel like NC is not really that far away.

It's beautiful but I don't like this kind of things. The animals are always better alive and free. And if the animals is already dead, just let 'em rest in peace.

Love!

Taxidermy is a 'special' kind of art. Like you, I have wondered what kind of process the artist goes through to come up with the finished process. EW..no I mean like poses..not the other stuff! haha Great pic!

I suppose taxidermy does help bring the wild to us sissies that live in the cities and never get out into the woods. Of course even if I were out in the woods I don't think I'd care to meet a real live bear or big cat like a panther or bob cat...not unless I was a great distance away...looking through a pair of high powered binoculars. :D

Hmm, how cute, my word verification is "maggie" usually I get things like "Zwotleswat".

Hey Valerie, I thought, for a min, you were wild game hunting, now that would be a weird pregnancy craving (He! He!)

Have a great day, T. :)

I like that you get out and about in your city. I feel like I have been there before. Love the shot!

Great shot! At first I was a little worried :) I have also always wondered how they decide which pose to put them in. A very strange (but cool) art.

I think its good that the poses are left up to people who try to bring out the wild and true nature of the animal.. i know if it was left up to me they would all be sitting at a tea party or having a fiesta.

haha, that looks like my cat catching a bird in the backyard! she really used to do that! she would bring the bird home and drop it in front of the door, like she was so proud! too bad we were all grossed out...

Great photo. At first I thought...glad the cat was interested in the bird and not you!!

I am trying to decide if the bird was too slow or the cat was too fast. It's much like the chicken or the egg controversy ! LOL Happy Tuesday : )
