craft clear out - part 2
My craft clear our continues! Next up on the lot for sale are some cute wood burned memo boards. Each board is lovingly burned by hand and comes with a little wooden easel stand. They were originally $30, and now they are 50% off at $15. Now that we have two wee ones in the house, I am devoting less time to wood burning… wood burning and children… yah, you get the picture, not the best mix. Find them in the Etsy shop here, here, and here.

bye bye birdie... time for a sale!
I love wood burning, but alas it has come time for me to retire my little wood burned panels. I have been making them for years, but now I am shifting focus on to my laser cutting items and collages. So what to do with the panels I have left in stock?.... have a sale! All wood burned panels small and large are now 50% off! Check out the sale here!

laser show
I have been waiting for the mailman to come and deliver this package all week... and it is finally here! Seeing as how I like burning wood (as in wood burning crafts... um, not just random things, cause that would be bad), I thought I would take a stab at some wood laser cutting. Of course, this had to be sent out to be done, so I sent a test sheet... and, hurray, the sample is back! Here is a sneak peek at some of the designs (soon to be brooches, earrings and possibly pendants). Still some tweaking to do... will post more progress soon!

branching out
Some good news today... I have gotten the green light for two craft shows this spring season... yay! They aren't until April and May, so I will post news about them closer to the date. Riding on the wave of excitement, I was busy yesterday burning up a new batch of cork coasters... burn, baby, burn!

the bird has landed
The bird has landed! New in the etsy shop this spring are the bird mini cork boards I have been wood burning last month (see the old post here). I have finally got around to photographing them and listing them in the store. The little boards come with a matching wooden easel stand too! Fingers crossed these "fly" off the store shelves (sorry for that lame pun, but I couldn't resist). Happy Monday!

burnt fresh
I am working on some new burning projects for this season, one of them being the woodburned cork board. I had burned similar ones a few years ago and then took a break from doing them, but now they are back! I still have a few more to finish and then it will be etsy photo shoot time... will post more pics soon!

hooray for the giveaway winner!
Nothing like brightening up the midweek blahs by picking out the giveaway winner! Today is the draw for my March giveaway... thanks to everyone who entered! With the help from the hubby, a random draw was done this morning... and the winner of a small woodburning is:Laura of Betula'Loo! Hooray! And what was Laura's panel choice?:
"I'm thinking the olive green little bird. Or maybe the brown one. So hard to choose! If I did win I would put my little bird near my workspace to remind me spring is here (despite the huge snow today)."
Didn't win this time? Well, March is almost over, which means the April giveaway will be fast approaching... so stay tuned! Happy Wednesday!

baby beluga
Ok, now I have that darn Baby Beluga song in my head (so apologies if it just popped into your head as well). Just wanted to share with you a custom woodburning I just finished. From time to time, I get special requests for specific animals and names for the woodburned wall panels I make.... I've had requests for birds and other forest creatures, but this is my first beluga whale. The client requested white sides, which I think match the beluga theme quite nicely. Can't wait for this little whale to swim to its new home. Check out some of my other custom panels here.

and the medal goes to....
I couldn't resist sneaking that Olympic medal reference in there... it is complete Olympic hysteria over here in Vancouver! Even my parents (who never ever watch any type of sporting events) have had the Olympic channel on non-stop when I visited them last. It's like the Olympics have stolen their brains!Ok, ok... enough dilly-dallying, on my part, on to the giveaway winner! The random draw was done this morning and winner of the swallow wall plaque is: Jane D. of she greets the day! Congrats!!! And here is her answer to the... er, well, non-skill testing question: What is the best or worst Valentine's gift you have ever received?
"The best v-day gift I received was a pack of polaroid film along with a box of sweethearts and a handmade magnet made by my boyfriend. Plus dinner & a movie. Followed by a nice walk around downtown and some Ghiradelli ice cream!"
Awwww... that is very sweet indeed! Well, now to top it off, you have a sweet little prize coming your way! Yay! Ok, and to everyone else who did not win this time... no worries... there is another giveaway coming up next month, so stay tuned!

sublime collaboration

I am a huge fan of Sublime Stitching, so when I was asked if I wanted to contribute a "woodburning how-to" using one of Jenny's famous patterns, I was thrilled!!! (Yes, there was some dancing on the spot and spontaneous robot and running man maneuvers that happened that day... um, apologies for possibly implanting that visual in your brain). I think the results turned out quite well. Check out the step-by-step on how to woodburn a mini-cutting board here... there are simple pics and instructions. Also check out the post about the cutting board on Sublime Stitching's blog here. Happy burning!

on to toronto!

An update today on the Smile On Your Brother art show. The show is now on its way to Livestock in Toronto (September 25th - 27th) after some great showings in Vancouver, Calgary and Saskatoon (pics above). So, if you are in the neighborhood, stop on by and check it out! It's also heading to Montreal and Quebec City (see here for dates).
My hubs, Roger and I had collaborated under his Crooked Walker label to create a woodburned owl skate deck for the show. If you look real close in some of the photos, you'll be able to pick it out... a bit "Where's Waldo", I know... but I'm feeling like a proud parent that makes you look at the hundreds of kids photos jammed into a fold-out wallet... except, in this case it's a skate deck, and... er, there are only 3 photos.

painting panels
Oh where did August go?!! Somehow, I am feeling a bit behind on my production for the craft fairs this year. And with one of the bigger shows soon approaching in October (One of a Kind Vancouver), I am having to ramp up production big time. For the last few evenings this week, I have been busy painting small wooden panels for my woodburnings... 100 small ones painted so far... 150 more to go. And then it will be burn, burn, burn time. I am not in a state of panic just yet... but perhaps check back in a week or so and it will be a different story!

mystery owl revealed!

Last month I posted some pics of a mystery project that Roger and I were working on together. Well, the time has finally come for the big reveal... and no, it's not a jewelry box, or a bread board (as a few had guessed)... it is a skate deck! Merging our two styles into one (which would mean, of course, that it would be woodburned and have awesome skulls), the deck is our entry for my hubby's company Crooked Walker. The deck is part of Contributor's Smile On Your Brother Art Show, where a selection of international artists and designers were asked to create art boards. All the boards are up for auction online (Aug 24th - Oct. 25th) to help raise funds towards donating 100 skateboards to disadvantaged youth across Canada. Check out the auction here if you want to see some of the other boards, or perhaps make a bid (hint hint). Also, if you want to see the boards in person... they will be touring in a traveling exhibit across Canada. We snapped some pics at the exhibit opening in Vancouver last night (at Livestock in Gastown, August 24th - 26th). The show will carry forth to Calgary, Saskatchewan, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City.... so check it out if it's in your neighborhood.

mystery owl 2
Last week, I posted a pic of a collaborative art project that I am working on with my hubby Roger... so I thought I would post another little teaser pic (can't reveal what it is yet!). So the woodburned owl has evolved a bit since then... we added some shading, a hint of colour, as well some awesome skull patterns to stand in as feathers. Owls, skulls... oh what could it be? Intrigued aren't you? I will post a reveal soon when it's done! ps. my July giveaway is coming up this Monday!

mystery owl
I am working on a collaborative art project with my hubby Roger... and while it is still not finished, and I can't reveal what the project is (yes, I am being annoyingly vague)... I thought I'd share a detailed shot of a portion of it. So now you know there is a burned owl involved! Will update soon and have the "reveal" once it's done! In the meantime, I will keep it mysterious... hoot hoot hoot!

burning birds
I spent yesterday afternoon finishing up two orders of woodburned panels. While burning, I sometimes like to watch TV (more like listen to TV, so as to avoid any burn injuries). Anyhoo, flipping through the channels, I was shocked to hear that both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson had died? Wha?.....Crazy!
