new cufflinks, eh?

These past few weeks, I have been finishing up some new cufflink designs for the fall/winter season. Carrying on with the outdoorsy theme, the new batch also borrow from some popular Canadian motifs… the classic beer stubby set, the hockey set, and the curling set. Perhaps a good pairing with a Canadian tuxedo, eh? (which is denim on denim, for any of those of you wondering) ;) 

Martha!

OK, it has been waaaaay too long since my last blog post. I have no idea where the summer is going! For some reason, I thought it had only been a couple of weeks… and then I saw the date...ack!

On the news front… something big and exciting! One of my wedding cake topper designs is featured on the Martha Stewart Weddings website as part of a cake topper feature. Yes... MARTHA!! Check out the screen shot as well as the link here!

Summer brings so many good things, one of them being weddings! This month, I have two new cake topper designs -  a floral set and a trees set (similar to the heart trees, but without the hearts). Check them out in the shop here. I am busy in the workshop coming up with more designs, so hopefully will post more over the coming months. Happy Monday!

a punch of colour

An update today on those laser cut felt pieces I was experimenting with earlier this month (see here). I combined the pieces with some laser cut bamboo pieces to make colourful  flower brooches. Now it is just a matter of photographing them for the online shop...

swag magnet

It's almost show time! One more week until the Got Craft Spring Edition. My workshop is in high gear trying to get everything ready for the weekend show… and that includes preparing the swag that will be handed out to the first 50 people to the show (each swag bag has tons of goodies in it from each of the vendors… so if you are coming to the show, get there early!). The swag I made for this show are little wood apple and pear magnets - a little wooden touch for your stainless steel appliance. ;)

felt fun

I have been experimenting with laser cutting felt these past couple of weeks, with some pleasant results. With all the spring blooms around our neighbourhood as inspiration, I decided to try and cut some floral shapes. The final goal is to make these in a pin or brooch form (hopefully in time for mother's day). Will post more once the final designs start to take form.

little snowshoes

Ok, not sure where the time went... weeks just flew on by! We had a little snow a couple of days... it came and then it went... and I think it is supposed to come again? We don't actually get enough snow here in the city to snowshoe... we have to head to the mountains in order to do that (hmmm.... although, now that I just said that, watch it snow tons here tomorrow!) I just made a pin of some little snowshoes as a custom order... take a look!

It is that time of year again when I start ramping up production for upcoming holiday shows, etsy orders and wholesale orders. So needless to say, our house turns into a bit of a workshop. Here are a fresh cut batch of soon-to-be earrings waiting to be sorted and assembled. Lately, Jasper has taken an interest in helping me sort my “little wood pieces”, as he calls them. I guess it is never to early to start crafting.... although I think if it were up to him the wood pieces would be  robots, dinosaurs and ninjas.

an apple a day...

It is a perfect crisp autumn day in Vancouver... the kind of day where you can still where just a sweater and not have to hide it under a coat. And what better way to celebrate today... how about some fresh apple? This is one of my new harvest inspired wood brooch and earring designs. Happy Monday! :)

On occasion, I get requests for custom work. And with wedding season right around the corner, more people are wanting to get custom items for their special day. So a little show-and-tell today. Here are a pair of custom bamboo cufflinks with an adirondack chair design recently done for a wedding party. :)

a little swag

I am preparing for the upcoming Got Craft show... so production mode here is buzzing. Each show always has the coveted free swag bag for the first 50 people through the doors... and they are chock full of goodies from all the vendors at the show. They are so popular in fact, line ups are early... as in there is already a huuuuuuge line at 8am in the morning when all the vendors arrive to set up for the show (the show doesn't even start until 10!)

Anyhoo, what to make for this year's Cabin + Cub swag? Here is a sneak peek! Ta-da.... some little 1-inch laser cut bamboo pins. A nice little way to say “Hi”. Swing by the show and try to score one.

new cake toppers!

For a little while, it seemed like all our friends and family were getting married right, left, and centre. I think one of the busiest summers for us (besides when we had Jasper, of course) was the summer a few years ago when we went to four different weddings.

So, ok, putting it out there to my other non-married friends and family in relationships (you know who you are)... I need a new wave of weddings to go to soon. Hee hee. Hmmm... maybe I should start thinking about wedding crashing... 

Anyways, just in time for this upcoming wedding season... a new line of bamboo cake toppers! Here are three of my new designs... elephants (for the event to never forget), squirrels (for the couples who are nuts for each other), and birds (lovebirds, of course). About one month to go until my first holiday show of the year (yes, it is in early November!), so I am in production mode now. I still am finding it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure out how much of each style to make for the accessories for each of the shows... will this ever get easier to predict?! Agh! Here is a sneak peek of the laser cut sheet (lots of brooches and earrings that you see there)... next step, assembly!

I have been working on some new styles of earrings for the upcoming holiday season... and ta-da... here is a peek at two of them, well technically four since they are in pairs, hee-hee. Mini elephants and mini squirrels are a new addition to the other bamboo studs in the collection. Hmmm... so I guess I could technically call them studly elephants and squirrels. ;)

A little sneak peek today! Freshly cut designs for some new cufflinks I am working on. Mmmm... nothing like the smell of fresh laser cut wood... it is like a campfire in my house, but without the worry. I will be assembling these the next few days and launching them in the etsy shop next week.... will post more photos soon!

Bonjour! Ok, I have finally finished working on those mysterious laser cut pieces I had kept mentioning in previous posts. You are totally thinking to yourself, “Finally!, she sure is dragging her heels...” I always forget how long it takes to photo document everything and then list them one by one on Etsy.... (yes, I know you know what I mean). Anyways, to the news now... new for this summer are bamboo wood brooches! another peek

An updated preview photo of some of the new laser cut wood I had recenlty got done. I will be unveiling these new goodies at the two craft shows coming up in the next two months. I know, I am still being vague about what they are... I will be unveiling them here and in the Etsy shop soon! The suspense is killing you, huh?

laser show

I have been waiting for the mailman to come and deliver this package all week... and it is finally here! Seeing as how I like burning wood (as in wood burning crafts... um, not just random things, cause that would be bad), I thought I would take a stab at some wood laser cutting. Of course, this had to be sent out to be done, so I sent a test sheet... and, hurray, the sample is back! Here is a sneak peek at some of the designs (soon to be brooches, earrings and possibly pendants). Still some tweaking to do... will post more progress soon!
