secret safe

Yesterday I told you about a cool thing we discovered while visiting the Olympic Northern House on the weekend... well here it is... a secret safe! Before you get excited and think the cool thing is behind the safe doors, no... I am actually talking about the safe itself. Ok, so I am a bit of an architectural geek... so while on my way to the ladies room in the basement, I stumbled upon a huge old bank safe on the way (Roger rolled his eyes, when I declared the obvious that this must have been an old bank building). In my mind, all I could think about were those old gangster and bank robbery movies... well, we did just watch Public Enemies a week before. (Did anyone else find it a tad slow and anti-climatic?) Anyways, I am curious to know what lies behind this secret door now?

Cool safe! The mystery of all those years!

Actually discussed your Olympic posts from your blog at lunch yesterday. My friends daughter was discussing Olympics and Canada. I told her about your blog and how you are posting up cool pics. I'll bet she stops by!

Have a great day!

We're planning on hitting some of the houses too, probably during the crazy way too many people stage though. The Peanut has just discovered the mascots (how strange is it that it took her this long to notice them?)and is now running around the house calling herself zoomi (Sumi) and telling me that her wings are about to burst out in her magic.

Neat! In college I worked in an old bank that had been converted to a three story restaurant, and the old cast iron safe was so heavy they couldn't move it out so it was in the middle of the dining room (with concrete supports underneath!). The bank was also the site of a "famous" bank robbery by Ben and Stella; South Dakota's own Bonnie & Clyde. The best part about working there was whenever we had tornado warnings we got to go to the "basement" which was really a bar hehe

It's probably empty :) But that would be really boring wouldn't it.

I think that is AWESOME!! I love old mechanical things like that, especially when you feel like there could be some old, forgotten treasure behind it! Good find!

I love old safes. Here in Lawrence there seem to be an abundance of old bank buildings. In one of the restaurants the women's restroom is in the bank vault! I will take a photo for you next time I am there. My hair stylist also has a safe in her salon where she keeps her product. Nice capture!

I wonder how dusty the insides of old safes get? Also just watched Public Enemies a few weeks back..it was slow..but I spent a lot of time Wiki'ing during the movie and got a nice history lesson in the meantime. In my humble opinion..Michael Mann's best film is 'The Last of the Mohicans'

Or at least it was a secret until someone posted pictures of it on the internet...

That actually is very cool. Straight out of a heist movie!

I love safes, my dad used to take me and my sisters to various places and we would look at them.

He always wanted to get one but never did...(hmm maybe a future gift...when I get money lol)

But now I so want one in my future home :) Even if it is holding clothes!

The safe is very cool, great pictures. And I agree, Public Enemies was slow and anti-climatic. Even Mr. Depp didn't make it worth it.
