a little bit of country in the city

This past weekend, we went to visit the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition), which is the big end of summer fair here in Vancouver. One of the highlights (besides the amusement rides... more on that tomorrow) was the farm country pavilion which showcased a diverse bunch of animals. My faves were the giant pair of oxen named Zorro and Zeldo. Seriously... in that first picture, I would have come up to his chin... it was that massive. Am also a fan of the mini horses too. If it weren't frowned upon, I would use one as an alternative mode of transportation. I wonder if they put the mini horse and giant oxen in the same pen, if both would be really confused or weirded out by each other.... hmmm. More pics coming tomorrow!

Zorro is super friendly. The Peanut was having a total meltdown after no nap, being to excited about going to the fair and 5 hours of being at the fair. I took her over to Zorro and Zelda's pen in the hopes of distracting her and Mr Zorro came right up to us, let us pet his shoulder and look in his big brown eyes. Both of them are huge, bigger than the draught horses my parents have and those guys a pretty big

Oh, man!! All of those babies are so cute!
The giant oxen is crazy, it looks huge!
I think it might have turned into a cage match or a therapy session if both of them were put in the pen together! hahahaha.

Literally! HOLY COW! THAT THING IS HUGE! Isn't it interesting the contrast between a huge bovine, and the little teeny pony. So precious!

How cute! I miss the state fair. Growing up they were in the town I lived. Then we moved out of state and now this state's fair is too far away. Maybe someday we'll make it up there!

I love the animals! They are so adorable!!

Those creatures are adorable! I'd love one of each...I don't think my landlord would mind one bit if I turned his lawn into a barnyard, do you?

Farm animals are so sweet! I love pygmy horses too. I used to live down the street from a whole pasture full of them. I always got so excited when I drove past them. I can't wait to see the rest of your photos! Now I'm looking forward to our fair, it doesn't happen til fall though.

Wow, I'm in awe of those oxen. I'd be so terrified to be in an open field near one of them! One false move and... squish.

Sweet! Animals such as these are always so much bigger up close and personal than I imagine them to be. I went to a zoo today and was surprised by how huge all the animals were! Looking forward to your follow-up post on the amusement rides. Fairs are so much fun! :)
