collage: man training birds

I love birds and things with birdy images on them, but oddly enough, I don't ever want to own a bird. The thought of a bird being in a cage all the time is a bit sad to me. I have met a couple of people who let their birds fly freely around their houses, but that idea sort of creeps me out too... let's just say there was bird seed, feathers and... er, other unpleasant matter strewn about at this place, and I was hesitant to sit down anywhere. I think I will just stick to admiring birds from afar.

ps. two feature mentions today - thanks to The Jealous Curator for doing a post on my collages and Laura at Bright, Bold, And Beautiful for featuring my little woodburned birdy.

I agree, birds are nice to look at, but I have no desire to have one.

It pains my heart to see birds kept in the cage too. Their wings are meant for them to fly freely! :)

I love the idea of having a friendly bird that would fly in freely and leave when it needed to, but that is just a dream.

heheh...I met a few people like that while working on West Broadway. They take their birds everywhere with them too. Interesting, perhaps but but not so appealing to me either. xoxo

Really liking 'man training birds'...I adopted a bird once..biggest mistake ever. EVER. It wasn't a nice bird. Sticking with cats and dogs. Cheers.

I completely agree. I love to watch them in the wild, but I don't know that I would want to own them. I admire people with that kind of knack though.

Well, I have a bird. I've had her since I was a kid and love her dearly. It is a whole other experience than dogs and cats. I don't recommend people get birds, at least most parrots, as pets unless they can really commit. I never feel I can totally give my bird the life she needs. If I were rich I think I'd have an indoor aviary so she could still fly. As is, she is caged. She climbs, dances, and plays with her toys. Don't forget parrots spend as much of their time climbing in the wild as flying. All the same, it isn't ideal. She was bred in captivity, so this is all she knows.

One of my high school friends had over a dozen cockateels in a cage and they were the most annoying things ever. They'd shriek all night long while we were trying to watch movies. I think I'll just stick to my cat.

We had a parakeet when I was in high school. I used to close the pocket doors fro the living room to the dining room and let her out of her cage to fly around. I always put her back in her cage in plenty of time to dust and run the vacuum before my parents got home from work :-)

I hope you'll stop by my blog and enter my WIN IT-Wednesday giveaway. This week it's a retty green necklace.

I've never wanted a bird, but I love playing with my friend's and then coming home to a bird-free house.

Yeah, I'm not okay with caging birds. It just seems they were meant to fly, and cages make them crazy. At least when you have fish in a tank they can swim around like they would in their natural habitat. My dad has a cockatiel who is just plain obnoxious. I know it's not the bird's fault though--most animals lose it when confined for eternity! Oh he chirps like crazy all of the time--hurts my ears just recalling it.

hey lades,

i just found your blog through City of Dionne. it's so great to see a fellow vancouverite doing so well in this cyber space! I adore your work and have been in the design world before, so truely appreciate all that goes into it from you.

omg and the birds, girl hold up, i once was at an open house in False Creek, where the "tour" started with telling us that a bird was in the house, so to speak. As we made our way though we witnessed maja poop everywhere, crumbs and bits of god knows what. Then came the bathroom, most important to me before purchasing a new home (no low-flow allowed and all). I threw open the shower curtain and "PAKAWWWW" there it was. The golden cuckatoo, feathers a blazin'! needless to say we moved onto another abode, more hospitable and def less poo ; )

great job on your writing, love its!!!!

xo,
Lynn (Vancouverite-too)

What a charming collage! I'm with you though...I don't think I could ever have a pet bird. I prefer listen to their songs from my window.

I do love birds as well but I am so with you...not in the house. Let them fly free outside. Your collage is lovely!

Like art of birds, like to watch them outside, but they terrify me.
You are much braver than Ia m to go in a house where a bird was flying around!! Scary!!
I don't like seeing any animal in a cage...its just too sad.
This collage is awesome and congrats on the features!

I had a Senagal Parrot once. his name was Latrell (but we ended up just calling him "BIrd" cause he always said "HEY BIRD!" when I walked into the room. Sadly, he flew away when I got my dog, Billy. I think he was mad at me:(

I don't like birds in cages either:( On the other hand, I love visiting my local birdy store and playing w/them!

Just found your blog on Etsy forums. I love birds too but totally agree with you about the cage thing. I know people say some of the birds are born in captivity so they don't know any different but it still feels very wrong to me.

I much prefer to have my bird feeders and watch them come and go as they please and have a little wash in the bird bath. My favourite is the humble blue tit (as you will see from my blog!).

agreed. birds are much prettier in pictures, hanging on walls...

my mom used to raise birds, and while she had some beautiful (even talkative) ones... I still don't think I'd ever want to have a bird of my own.
